I'm all for stories about female characters (in this case, a detective) that challenge social norms and disrupt fragile/toxic male masculinity, but this story didn't really hold my attention. Maybe it was the fact that it was set in the 1980s that made it feel a little dated (sorry, I don't feel sentimental tug for that time period) or the writing style itself (which was good but not great). It seems like it is an interesting story, but sadly it's not my cup of tea.
