I can understand how this book will appeal to many readers who enjoy dark humor mixed with adventure. Unfortunately, it is not the kind of book that I like to read. The reasons why the protagonist wanted to visit the edge was very vague to me and I think this was a key part of the story. Once he reached the village to begin his trek, the story just became kind of random and boring and seemed like filler. His snowmobile journey with Sim was probably the best part of the book for me because I liked Sim’s character. But once “Guy” was stuck on the ice flow, the book was nothing but depressing, crude and gory. I guess it wasn’t supposed to be all serious but the conversations with the animals seemed more ridiculous than anything. I really had a hard time picturing the scenes - I think the writing just wasn’t descriptive enough for me (except for the vivid goriness).
