I'm very torn on this one. First off, I love the cover. The story follows "Guy" a historian who has made a living telling stories of pompous white male explorers who often mistreated or took advantage of their native hosts. Guy decides he needs to go to the Arctic circle to see the Arctic floe, and to have a more thorough understanding of the explorer experience. Similar to the explorers of the past, Guy is pretty much a narcissistic white guy who is not very respectful of his native hosts. I enjoyed the first half of the book. Guys sarcasm reminds me of Christopher Moore's writing. The story is darkly comical.

Somewhere in the last third of the book, the story becomes very dark. Can't say much more without giving spoilers, but I wish the novel had stayed in the more comedic vein of the first half.

I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this book from February Media.
