This book is a bit slow to start. I was kinda thrown off by the perspective in the first chapter. It read like someone was telling you what happened. There was a lot of background information to set up where the story begins and why their society is the way it is, which I appreciate. The perspective does change after that first chapter. It switches between characters and we get more of an idea as to what their motives are.
So far I’m really enjoying the story. I loved the first fight scene and how the authors described their fighting styles. The characters seem likeable for now.
Darling is an orphan of war who gets adopted by another powerful family. She holds the boon of chaos and is willing to do anything for the people she cares about.
Talon is the War Prince of House Dragon. All he wants is to protect his brother and find a way to help him as he descends into madness.
This is evident within the first few chapters and I’m excited to see where the story goes from here.

As for the cover, I’m not a huge fan of it just because it’s VERY similar to Blazewrath Games by Amparo Ortiz. It has a similar color scheme and even has two creatures on the cover, one of them being a dragon. If I didn’t know better, I would think this was an alternate cover for Blazewrath Games.
