This book started out with a slow beginning. At first, after reading the description, I was so interested in learning about the world of ancient magic and warring factions that the authors promise. The world building was practically non-existent and did not captivate me. I did not feel drawn to the world or any sense of attachment to the characters. The romance was a bit disappointing and I felt like the characters fell in love a little too instantaneously without any buildup. I would not recommend this to lovers of Young Adult romance fantasy novels. There are many better alternatives. I think this book has a lot of room for improvement.

The ending was pretty good, so I guess if you can make it past the slow beginning it might be worth it. Overall, this was a rather generic YA fantasy book with many characteristics of common plots. It was rather unoriginal.
