4.5 stars. I absolutely loved this book but the ending was confusing and a cliffhanger, which I hate. I am left with so many questions.

I love how Caspian is a central character but we never know if he’s reliable or not. We don’t know if he’s even sane. We don’t know what his plans are and if they are for the greater good or nefarious.

I personally loved Talon and Darling’s characters. I understood why they were able to come together so quickly, because they both were more interested in ending the war than continuing to seek revenge. Sometimes you feel an instant connection to someone and I feel like that’s what it was here. They were enemies, sure, but they had the same ultimate goal.

Usually I feel like books are too long, but I wanted this one to be longer! I felt like the whole book needed a little more in-depth world-building. I have a basic understanding of the world, but I want to know so much more. The magic system was so unique, but again I feel like the book only touched the surface of what it is. I hope we learn more about it in the next book.

I was completely lost on what was happening at the end of the book. Again, more description was needed, but maybe it will all be explained in the next book since, as I said, it ended on a cliffhanger. But I feel like even Caspian’s explanation for why he was doing this was confusing. I just really hope there’s more clarity with the next book.

I loved the cover of the book and the illustrations of the different houses. It really helped to know what each mythical animal looked like. I really need the next book already; I am in love with this world and it’s characters!
