I’ve been very curious about this one! I loved the cover and the blurb sounded great. This was an interesting YA Fantasy. It was a good start to a series.

The book is told from two point-of-views and prologue from a different one. The main ones come from Darling and Talon. They are sworn enemies and of course that brings in a whole bunch of trouble between them. I don’t know if I could pick a favorite between the two. They are both from different houses and both have different opinions about the houses and what their loyalty means. I would say that they do have certain things in common but their loyalty definitely keeps them at odds most of the time.

Darling and Talon’s relationship goes right with the trope of enemies-to-lovers. It is a favorite trope of mine, but I do wish that there would have been more development because it felt like they were at odds and then right into loving one another. It just needed a tad bit more development for me, but I did think they were cute together and I liked their banter.

The other characters in the book were something else! Talon’s brother is wild and sometimes a hot mess. I did like when he showed up because he was always so unpredictable. I felt like that with a lot of the characters. It does add to the plot twists which was nice.

I think that some of the world-building could have had more to it but what I got was still good nonethless.

Overall, this was a good start. It didn’t wow me, but I am still intrigued as to what could happen in the sequel.
