This book sucked me in right away! I love how it opened with a young child exploring his prophetic magic, which quickly turned into a creepy and disturbing painting of a girl with black pits for eyes. I was enchanted in the most disturbing way and immediately eager to see how this boy and the girl would meet up. It quickly established the magic of the world as well as the political climate.
The prophecies, the chaos magic, the creepy pictures of an eyeless girl. Ugh, I absolutely loved everything in this book. The characters are all well-developed & court politics are extremely messy from years of ongoing war and House fighting. I enjoyed seeing LGBTQ+ rep within this story including gender-neutral pronouns for one of them.
I loved that the audiobook had 2 narrators for each of the POVs & a lovely enemies-to-lovers trope I can’t seem to get enough of. I can’t wait for book 2.
