So far very suspenseful but difficult to understand context

The start of the novel sucks the reader right in with suspenseful and foreboding drama but then the larger context has yet to really be given. From the second chapter there is a first person narrator and then either another or the same first person narrator, it's unclear right off the bat - I suppose it could do with further and more careful reading but as a YA fantasy I don't expect to have to work this hard to piece together the setting and context for all of the drama. I still want to sit down and read it properly once I have a copy of the larger book.
