As a fantasy reader, this first impression bored me from the start and also confused me with the dark prologue; the characters needed to be established for the contents played out within the introduction. I didn't appreciate the violence and gore which seemed just placed in as a "dark fantasy" requirement. Also, the dual point of view was not distinguishable enough to make these characters stand out as individuals in my head.
