The opening exposition laid a lot of groundwork for the world of this fantasy. Once the book shifted to the two main characters, from rival houses, it read with much more energy and intrigue. The set up is interesting and I could see fans of YA fantasy being drawn the relationship between familial enemies at the heart of theirs story.
