The story starts off with a prologue of a young prince who has prophesying artistic abilities that drive him mad. Death leads to conquest and war. We have the dual-POV of an orphan girl and the prince's younger brother. There's magic (people have special abilities with setbacks) and plenty of action and fighting.
If you're a fan of seafaring crews and assassins plotting revenge, along with chaotic anti-heroine, this may be for you. We get a short scene of feathered war-drakes, but I'm hoping for more dragons.
Though this is high fantasy, one of my main pet peeves is when modern words are thrown in. Yes, this is Young Adult, but authors shouldn't underestimate a young reader!
