I like the beginning so far! The world set up is nicely set up and detailed without being overwhelming. There are various Houses that have been at war (aptly named the "House Wars"). Each house has a sigil and they are battling over the murder of an empress. Skip forward many years and we meet Darling and Talon who are on opposite sides in the midst of the war. I'm very interested in learning more about their "boons" or magical blessings. They seem rather varied and really interesting. I've enjoyed Justina Ireland's writing in the past, so I have great hope for this writing duo!
