This was another book that never arrived likely due to package theft over the holidays.
My expectations for this one was pretty high- a modern day Persuasion set in the world of academia seemed tailor made for me. I certainly flew through the entire book and there were moments that I really enjoyed but taken as whole I was disappointed. I liked to way that the life of an nontenured literature professor was portrayed and the interactions with students and over the top department heads made me chuckle. I was very let down by the romance. The two main characters barely have a real conversation or spend any time together so their strong, enduring feelings for each other are not at all convincing especially with the ending being so rushed. Far too many pages are spent on best friend Larry and his affair with a closeted b-list actor which I suppose was intended as comic relief but I found annoying and troubling. It was a nice effort but ultimately not for me.
