I want to talk to everyone I know who has read this. There's so much here to unpack, to think about, to challenge.

Darren is a barista at Starbucks who has a fated conversation with the head of a new tech startup. Impressed with Darren's confidence and salesmanship, Rhett offers Darren a job, altering the course of his life forever. In so, so many ways. This book will make you uncomfortable or enraged or both. In that, this-is-a-satire-but-feels-too-real kind of way. So many topics are hit on in this book: race in America, race in corporate America, start-up white bro culture, gentrification, our judicial system, and more.

Mateo Askaripour knows how to tell a story. His writing is masterful and the plot is well-paced. I found myself forgetting at some points that it's satirical considering our current political/social climate. But just like the best satires, the book is action-packed with commentary and critique.

This is a read that will stay with me for a long, long time. Could not recommend it more. Especially right now.
