I really enjoyed this book initially. There’s a movie that came out not too long ago that it reminds me of and I appreciated this novel more. This book follows Darren, a really likable character who’s a salesman with a company where he gets the nickname ‘Buck’ as the only Black salesman within the company. I think Darren was a great character until he became Buck. Buck is everything I loathe about sales people. He’s sleazy and I wasn’t a fan. Between tragedy and some truly entertaining moments, these two become one and this book begins to flow even more. I think the author does an amazing job with this character and book overall. It’s a really different read and it’s so immersive that reading it is its own experience. I’ve read other reviews that say it feels like a thriller and I completely understand where they’re coming from. This is just such an impactful novel. Excellent read.
