Genre: Contemporary, Humor, Race
Synopsis: Darren is 22 years old and lives in a Brooklyn brownstone with his mother. At one time, Darren was the valedictorian of his senior class, but these days he works at Starbucks, hangs out with his girlfriend, and lets his mom make his lunch.
When the CEO of NYC’s hottest tech startup takes a chance on Darren as a new salesperson, Darren transforms into the character of "Buck," the cutthroat salesman who happens to be the only Black person in the company. As his personal life takes a hit, Buck begins to find ways to help other people of color to get into the sales world...
This book is timely and serves as the perfect way to start off a new year with new ambitions. Buck is an incredibly realistic and likable protagonist making this book all the more enjoyable. Aside from the humor, Askaripour's book does raise some very interesting points about equitability in the corporate world- another socially relevant topic.
