I've never read a long sample that didn't open on the first page, and this started on Chapter 5, which was an inspired move.
I feel like I've got a feeling for what Darren's life is going to be as Buck in the new job he started. I love how the story has breaks where an omniscient narrator calls out the fallacies and traps we humans tend to fall for. And all of it makes me want to read more, to see how things play out.
