I feel... underwhelmed. This is my first by this author and based on this experience, I’ll be reluctant to try her again.
I didn’t buy the bad guys’ motives, I found the relationships incredibly shallow and contrived, everyone was a bit blasé about the major secret, and the secret at the end was way too obvious and on the nose. Overall it just felt really unoriginal.
The writing was fine, the characters were fine, I didn’t hate any of them but they didn’t make me feel anything which is the cardinal sin for me. I want to relate to hero characters and loathe the villains and I just didn’t get any of that here. It was a page turner but I kept turning pages thinking, there has to be more to this than meets the eye, and sadly there wasn’t.
