BEHIND EVERY LIE by Christina McDonald was the February book pick for the #notyomamasbookclub buddy read on Instagram. I read and enjoyed the author’s prior book THE NIGHT OLIVIA FELL so I decided to add this thriller to my February TBR.
BEHIND EVERY LIE has protagonist Eva waking up in the hospital after being struck by lightning. She has no recollection of what happened the night before, but she soon learns that her mother has been murdered and that she was found near her mother’s home. Knowing she is now a suspect, Eva is especially motivated to find out what happened. Eva soon realizes that her mother hasn’t been entirely open about her past and has many secrets for Eva to uncover that may explain what happened.
I found this to be a very entertaining thriller and one that kept my attention hooked to reading. In addition to hearing chapters from Eva’s POV as she investigates and tries to uncover her mother’s secrets, we also get chapters from Kat’s POV from when Eva was just a young girl. As the stories progress, many questions arise as to how the Kat from back then became the Kat found modern in the present day.
The mystery was well put together and there were enough characters with questionable actions to keep me guessing what exactly was going on. I had a few guesses, some of which wound up being accurate, but I did not predict all of the twists and turns! I did manage to put the book down to wait for our first chat point, but I immediately binge read the rest as soon as we were done speculating. This was a fun one for a buddy read!
If you haven’t picked up BEHIND EVERY LIE, it is a fun, very binge worthy read and I would recommend it!
