Eva wakes up in the hospital to learn she has been struck by lightning, and her mother, Kat, has been murdered. Most surprising, the detective seems to consider her a suspect. A ludicrous thought, although one of the few memories Eva does have is standing over her mother with a bloody knife in her hand.

As eager to prove to herself as she is to show the detective she didn’t hurt her mother, Eva embarks on her own investigation, which takes her to London where she learns nearly everything she thought she knew about her history was a lie. Thank goodness she has her loyal fiancé, Liam, by her side as her own behavior becomes more erratic.

I’d been in a reading slump and needed a book that would grab me from the very first page, and this one definitely did. Both settings were appealing, and Eva was a relatable protagonist. Some of the plot twists I was able to guess, but some surprised me. All in all, an excellent suspense novel.
