In the first 43 pages of this book, there was just so much going on. I liked the first part. A murder, someone struck by lightning, an investigation, questionable family dynamics, mental health issues, a budding marriage, this was all good stuff. The abrupt jump to a different point of view in a different time period was a little too all over the place for me. Usually an author will be able to give flashbacks a little continuity with the present day storyline, but this one brought me to a totally different place and feel. Perhaps that is what the author wanted and maybe the next few chapters will smooth it out. But the last chapter of this excerpt seemed very separate from the first chunk. I will say, it makes me want to keep reading to allow the author to blend them together and see how it develops. I'd like to continue reading it.
