***SPOILER ALERT*** - Beautiful Bad by Annie Ward was far too predictable for a psychological thriller. While I tend to love books similar to Gone Girl, this book was a miss for me. As soon as I started reading about how Ian died, I figured out that Maddie was responsible and assumed that she only started seeing a writing therapist to allow her to better corroborate her story. Additionally, bringing in her neighbor Wayne to see the bunker Ian had built in the basement was such an obvious move. One of the few real surprises to me in the book was that Jo had a miscarriage, as I did wonder about the bloody towel under the sink for a while. Jo's murder also came as a bit of a surprise, but it honestly felt like an unnecessary afterthought. I really wanted to enjoy this book, as so many authors I love had great things to say about it. Unfortunately, however, Ward did not manage to craft the complex twisty story I was craving.
