The first chapter is pretty good. A woman calls 911 and the dispatcher hears a child talking and knows that something bad has happened. Then we go backwards in the story (and quite a bit of back and forth and between characters).

Ian is a bodyguard that goes to bad places ( otherwise, why would you need a bodyguard?) and meets Jo and Maddie who are two girls just living it up in the middle of war torn countries. (I mean, what the hell?)

There is some sort of curtuffle with “bad boy” Ian that splits up the friendship of the girls and then poor Maggie pines over Ian a few years.

Finally those two get together, make a baby, and we finally get down to the bits and bolts of the book. Not a bad book but definitely not the “thriller of year” by any means. It was also much longer than it needed to be. A solid read to get me through a few lunches but didn’t keep me up at night either.
