Even though this book goes back and forth in time it's never confusing as to which time frame you are presently reading about. Which for me was good as i like a sense of clarity in that area as you are taking in the background of the characters and their history.
Joanna and Maddie have lives that are not typical at all so i can see how they were drawn together into a friendship while abroad in other countries where their work takes them. Then you throw into the mix some alcohol and additional friendships that are formed with male bodyguard.
Maddies family is loving and extremely supportive as she is often left alone raising her son. Her husband Ian is still often on assignment in far off places.
