I was gravitated to the very first chapter, "The Day of the Killing". The title alone grabbed my attention. As I started to read about the 911 call from 2240 Lincoln Street and Officer Diane arriving to the residence, breaking protocol and entering the house because a child may be involved, I was hooked. I want to know what happened in this house on this night and whose blood is on the floor and in the kitchen.
As the story progressed into finding out about the main character Maddie 10 weeks before the day of the killing, I found myself intrigued and drawn into the book. Reading all 20 of her anxiety causing statements I got a sense something major has happened to Maddie in the past .. wondering what it was .. is she having PTSD like her husband (which I know about because of the book summary) … where is her head out .. what is with the scar on her face? etc
The next chapter introduces us to her best friend Joanna and her encounter with Ian her husband currently.
I love the writing style, I like the way the chapters seem to go from 10 weeks from the killing day and I am assuming it will count down to the events that led to what happened at the beginning .. which I really want to find out if that is the case, but I also like how the past of the begging of the relationship is brought in as well.
I am also intrigued in the child Charlie … how old is he? how does he play a part in this story?
I am completely enthralled and want to continue to read this book!!!!! The cover completely draws your attention to it as well. I would definitely pick this up at the store or library just to read what it is all about!!!!
