The book starts with what appears to be a murder, then moves to Maddie, the main character, feeling on edge ten weeks prior. Then it goes back even further to her meeting her husband, whom she's obviously become terrified of. This drew me in quickly without feeling abrupt and then started building up to the start of the book - and in a way that made me want to keep reading. Plus the culmination apparently occurs right in the area where I grew up, which adds extra appeal.
