Beasts of Prey was one of my most anticipated reads of 2021, and it fully exceeded my expectations! I loved reading this book. The worldbuilding was absolutely exquisite, and I loved seeing a fantasy world that was all about Black culture and joy and experiences. I love the mythology of this world (and can't wait to see even more of it in the next book). I loved the characters – Koffi and Ekon are both amazing and I want to give them both all the hugs! They both have strength that presents itself in different ways for each of them, but they also each have their own personal traumas they struggle with and learning how to be vulnerable. Their journeys are fantastical but also really relatable, which is what makes the story so strong. I also love seeing a strong male character who is allowed to be sensitive and vulnerable and that is a part of his strength rather than taking away from it. There are a lot of action-filled and heart-pounding moments, and twists that will keep readers on their toes. My absolute favorite book I read in 2021. I highly recommend to any YA fantasy lovers!
