“Baba says only wicked things happen after midnight, but I know better.” I often can tell how much I’ll enjoy a book by its first page, and this one had me hooked after just the first sentence!
A YA fantasy, this book has vivid settings, magical encounters, and a heroine who will need to make some important and life changing decisions. She will most likely have to choose between her best friend and the object of her desire, as well as between her family’s ideas of who she is versus her own ideas of who she wants to be. The protagonist seems to be a strong female role model, someone who will grow into her own as she progressed through her story and learns to wield her magic.
The writing is beautiful, the settings are lush and descriptive, and the cultural aspects are immersive and well done. I am beyond excited to read the rest of this book and to see where the author goes with it!
