I really love a fun African fantasy novel, especially one with a good magic system like this one. This was a great debut novel, very similar in feel to The Gilded Ones, and at the beginning I definitely got a strong Furyborn feel as well. It was definitely written towards the YA audience and because of this I feel like I was able to predict some of the twists and turns in the story early on, but there was enough suspense and extra plot-twists to keep the story engaging and exciting. The characters were really well-written with great personalities and relationships. I really enjoyed the worldbuilding and getting to discover all the amazing pieces of the Greater Jungle. The ending really spikes your interest and makes you excited for book two. I read the beginning of this at a pretty standard pace, but those last few chapters really kicked it up a notch. I'll definitely be picking up a copy of this and book two when it releases!
