Needs less modern phrase and more explanation

I suppose this is a fantasy world but there isn't much explanation to the world yet, and lots of animals mentioned with no description given. There is some form of magic but no explanation on its use or purpose. On top of lack of worldbuilding, there are modem terms ( Or 80s music throwbacks) of top fades and cornrows, and if by these descriptions we can't figure out it's Probably some kind of African based, the description states that they are black teens. Describing the village would work too. This seems like it's going to be character based without a lot of world building and a no from me
