"Beasts of Prey" by Ayana Gray immediately pulled me in to a world of magic and distrust, the injustice of life as Adiah longs to be accepted for who she is. It is filled with intrigue as it begins with a young boy's death as you wonder just what is happening in the world, an occurrence too many are afraid to speak of, lest they doom themselves and their loved ones. The heartbreak of death, the promise of freedom, it makes me wonder what will happen next and how things will NOT go as planned for the indentured servants who just wish to pay of their debt and move on. A boy who is drawn to the forest voice who calls him, a voice of a dead friend. Wonderful characters who you want to know more about, already wishing life will improve for them, but knowing it will likely not. I'm excited to see what happens next as all the different stories and characters lives come together in the end. Great start and set up to the story.
