I can easily see myself reading this book straight through in an afternoon. It begins with a comically stubborn former-couple, who clearly are not on the same page about what tore them apart a decade ago and a lovingly overbearing family pulling the strings to get them back together. The unsettled romantic tension is as clear and palpable as Ms. Oliveras' description of a Key West summer day.

What's more exciting is to read a Latino representation not driven solely by food or cooking. We get a Latina holding more than one job, as a firefighter and small start-up business owner, who may actually overthrow the maschismo stereotype and a romantic male interest who may in fact be the damsel in distress for once. It is clear we are in for a passionate reconnection where family values and communication will take center stage.
