I received a copy from Bookish First.
I tried so hard to really like this. I did like the storyline and others will love the book but it’s not for me. At 100 pages I found myself skimming. And also peeking at the ending. It sort of helped to know the ending because then I made more sense of things. Most of it involves the British government and court system. I do good to keep up with understanding my hubby’s job as a magistrate. The author doesn’t explain Jame’s job title or how things work. I don’t even know what the initials for his job stand for. But you still get an understanding of what’s going on enough to enjoy the book. I felt like there was too much talking and describing of the buildings and thoughts. While I like that stuff, it all became tedious after a while. By the time it got back to Kate, I had forgotten who she was. (It’s written where each chapter is of a different character’s point of view). I didn’t used to like this but it really worked for this book and made for a neat read. I think my biggest thing was I despised James from the beginning. But if you like dramatic books, especially with politics and courtrooms, you will LOVE this. It’s like the tv show Scandal, except slow as in soap opera.
