James.......this man is an absolute cad! And when you discover just how far back his behaviors go and just how deeply his impact has been, you want to smack him in the face yourself! This novel is exceedingly timely, what with the rampant abuse allegations (and indeed truths) running through government, media and the entertainment industry. The author takes us back to a time that the seeds of narcissism and sociopathy are sewn....or, at least to when you get to witness it's morphing from privileged youth to entitled young man.
The real star of the novel however is not the young woman he seduces resulting in a trial, nor his patently naive wife, but a woman who, as a college freshman is attacked and raped by James, changing her life's path forever. It is both sad and powerful to see how she reinvents herself and satisfying to see her take him on in court.
While not what we want the outcome to be, the ending is more true to life than the alternative. Well written and engaging!
