Received an ARC of this suspense thriller from BookishFirst for an honest review. Wife, Sophie says to herself, “James is late” and this statement is so ominous the reader wonders why is Sophie so anxious. Sophie’s husband, James comes home and it’s not good. James has had an indiscretion, which is about to be breaking news for the world to hear and learn about. There are 3 main characters, Sophie, James and Kate. The book goes back and forth between the 3 characters with hints of a backstory of something occurring in college that is traumatizing, but don’t know at this point what it is? What you do know is that there are several privileged individuals with a sense of entitlement and disregard for those not of their stature, narcissistic personalities, destroying lives. The author took a long time to tell the story, about 75-100 pages could be removed and I started to lose interest, but I kept reading, glad I did. I was confused as to why the author kept going back to college life with painstaking details of “Kate”. As the story progressed, it clicked about Kate and my suspicions were soon confirmed pages later. All I can say, is wow!!! I had to keep reading after that point to see how it ended.
