Sophie immediately comes across sympathetically as she lovingly watches her children leave with their father, her beautiful family. The reference to a past crisis between husband and wife, where she was angry enough to leave him, intrigues me. The fact that she returned to him shows how much she desires this marriage, and I expect that she has reserves of strength of which she is unaware.

Yet. "It's about to break" is an excellent cliffhanger. I like the telling details of James' personality and their marriage. It's clear that he's used to being in charge, and that he's practicing damage control on his wife.
