Scott, an American graduate student, travels to Geneva to study for his master's degree. On board the SS United States, Scott meets and falls in love at first sight with the Countess de Rovere. It is several months later before a relationship evolves between the two. This story is a twist on the traditional where the female is older (by 7 years), more experienced and financially secure.
This story follows the ten months of Scott and the Countess's relationship concluding with their marriage. Reader's looking for a romantic story with little drama will enjoy this story.
As I read this story I was bothered by something, but couldn't quite put my finger on it until I realized I have not read many, if any, romance books where the main character is a male. While it was different from what I'm used to, it didn't deter from my enjoyment of the story.
One of my favorite quotes from the book: "My darling, life is about choices. You must learn that the choices you make will not always result in your happiness or the happiness of others. But you must always be true to yourself. Never betray your principles."
