An Improbable Pairing follows a American graduate student named Scott bound for Europe in the 1960's, who becomes enamored with a beautiful older woman on the ship who is not only divorced, but a very rich Countess.

The story was a little flat. The characters weren't very interesting. I loved the writing and the descriptions of the scene and settings - although I think this would have been better set earlier in time. It felt very dated for the 1960's. But also, not much really happened - I found myself a bit bored. I think I just didn't like to follow Scott, who was fairly unlikeable, and a bit of a jerk in my opinion. The romance wasn't very believable and I just didn't feel it.

The writing really is fantastic, but the story just didn't keep me interested and the characters weren't relatable nor likeable.
