I haven't read a love story written by a male before, that I know of. It was definitely different reading it from the male characters perspective. To me, the beginning seemed more like a lust story. Not that anything sexual happened, but all his descriptions of his female interests. I feel I prefer reading from a female's perspective. The story line did hold my interest. I loved the fact the Desiree seemed to be strong willed, unlike what normally happens in some cheesy romance books. I didn't feel like 7 years difference in age was a big obstacle to get over, but definitely the social standings were. I wish that there was more descriptions of what it was like there in the 1960's, that seemed lacking. All in all a decent story, but not one I'd read again. But will gift to my mom!
