This reminded me somewhat of The Great Gatsby. Beginning flirtation on a ship, Scott meets the countess on his way to study abroad. Scott dances with Millie who is gorgeous in her own right but he hopes to attract the attention of the countess. When the ship deposits each at their destination, Scott secretly hopes to run into the countess, even though someone of Millie's age are more appropriate.
