I don’t normally read historical romances. Actually, I don’t usually read historical fiction of any kind. But The Improbable Pairing caught my attention in a way that many others have not. First there’s the cover – lovely shades of sepia, yellow, and peach all blending together. Right away it signals what it is, a romance novel set in the past. There was no doubt in my mind about that one.
The excerpt and first look proved this conviction, but that is really no surprise. What was surprising, for me, was how wistful and whimsical the writing was. Despite being so heavily grounded in the past, or perhaps because of that very fact, the writing if fluid and lightly handled. It’s quite beautifully done.
