Almost Damned is a quick legal thriller at a little over 200 pages. The author is actually a full time criminal defense attorney so it felt really authentic. This is the second book in a series following criminal defense attorney Samson Young. I was considering reading this book as a stand-alone, but ended up deciding to read the first book first based on reviews for this one saying that they were confused and that it was super short. I definitely would have been confused if I didn’t read the first one so it’s totally worth it.

This book is not your average legal thriller. It has serious religious plot lines with jesus and the devil and archangels and resurrection and fallen angels and all sorts of things. I am not well-versed in religion and the writings of the bible, so I feel like I may have been able to connect more if I had a stronger foundation. However, I still enjoyed the book a good amount! I loved the science aspect and the discussions on DNA typing and analysis. And PRAISE character lists at the beginning of books because I referred to it A LOT.

“What you don’t understand yet is that none of it, the adventure, as you put it, means anything unless there’s an end. A life like this is hell.”
