I have not read the first book, and if I am reading a book with supernatural touch I want it to be an epic fantasy - for me it seemed to fall short in that area, but that is just me. The writer is a lawyer and protagonist seemed to be drawing similarities from author's professional life. It can be a one time read if you have spare time.
