I found the story uninteresting, but I can see true crime fans enjoying this book

I'll admit first off that I don't typically read true crime, I don't even watch true crime shows. I like mysteries, but true crime frightens me and makes me sad since it is, well, real life. Going into the excerpt, I wasn't sure what to expect. The author starts with a preface talking about how she grew up knowing about crimes and murder, and her mother's career. I actually found the preface very interesting. Once the book really started, though, I wasn't as intrigued. It is very much bogged down by mundane details so instead of being intrigued, I grew bored. I understand that the author was trying to build up to the suspense, but the build itself wasn't very interesting. Again, I don't typically read true crime so I really don't know how they typically read. Many other first impressions on here by true crime fans seem much more impressed by the excerpt, so I'm going to say that true crime fans may like this one.
