Kind of clunky but has promise

The narration style feels juvenile and very stilted. The main character has many of these traits explained about her and it feels like they are thrust upon the reader rather than it being developed by her actions or internal monologue. Also, there's some plot holes although these can be overlooked for the sake of the novel. The idea is interesting though. I'd probably continue reading to see if it picks up and provides Yolanda with more of a personality. The paragraph style was also kind of odd, it felt very disconnected and kind of all over the place like when there was an explanation about the cancer rates and the newspaper article. That narration felt really strange and almost like an afterthought to add something to that portion of the chapter. It reads more like a nighttime news segment rather than being narrated in a novel. If the plot picks up, these could be overlooked, but it all depends on how it progresses.
