I enjoyed this mystery novel with a fascinating young female black protagonist. Yolanda Vance grew up poor, first in Georgia and then in Detroit. She worked hard to improve her circumstances. She received a scholarship to a girl's boarding school and then to an elite women's college in Holloway, California. Then she became a lawyer and obtained a job at a fancy corporate law firm in New York. Only six months into her dream job the law firm was raided by the FBI. Determined not to be a scapegoat for the firm, Yolanda became a whistle blower and took a job as an attorney with the FBI. That's where the mystery starts. Shortly after she starts work at the FBI, they transfer her to a job as a field agent because they need a young black person to go undercover in Holloway, which except for the college is a very rough city. So Yolanda is back in the environment she worked so hard to escape, but now as an adult - so everything is different. She has to make decisions about where she belongs all over again. I found Yolanda to be a terrific heroine and followed her story with great interest.

Disclosure - I received an Advance Reader's Copy (ARC) of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
