Engaging, heartfelt, and thought-provoking

I loved this book!! Yolanda, a young lawyer in New York, is left jobless when she blows the whistle on her law firm. After being hired by the FBI in New Jersey, she is assigned an undercover job in Holloway, California, the city where she attended college. Although she begins this journey with her own judgmental attitudes, her experiences as she infiltrates a youth outreach program drastically alter her thinking. Aya De Leon’s writing style is beautiful. I loved how she portrayed Yolanda’s personal growth in an effective and poignant manner that really spoke to me as a reader. I truly felt that I was along on the journey with her because of the connection I formed with her character. Although this book was not quite what I was expecting, I was pleasantly surprised by the unexpected turns it took.
