While I enjoyed this book overall, the utopian society gone awry feels done before. I found myself frequently thinking about the themes of individualism versus the good of the whole as portrayed in both “The Giver” and the Divergent series. I’m interested to see how the moral questions such as choosing to fit in despite cognitive dissonance and sacrificing those who challenge the norms play out. I understand this is a young adult book but I found myself questioning some of the science. For instance, I didn’t understand how or why clones would “feel” the other, especially those to whom they are not cloned or why so little influence is given to nature in determining personality, appearance, etc. All in all though, this was a quick and entertaining read.
