As soon as one of the main characters, Althea-310, is introduced we know something kinda weird is going on, I mean, anytime numbers are added to names, that's a warning sign of a dystopian world to come. Althea-310 is one of the 10 300 generation of Altheas and lives with her 9 sisters in a dorm, bonding with them telepathically. As an Althea she can look forward to certain personality traits, which make her an excellent historian. The Samuels make wonderful doctors, the Carsons engineers, the Ingas artists, and others take on other roles in this perfectly organized utopia.

Enter Jack. Jack is human. Jack is not a series, but a singular boy. Different. Alone. Althea-310 sees something in Jack that her sisters, and everyone else seemed to miss. Will Althea-310 be brave enough to let her curiosity guide her, or will she let the council make her decisions for her?
